Margaret was born on 18th October 1949, in Carstairs Junction, Lanarkshire, Scotland, a daughter to John & Marion Robertson and a sister to Nettie & Jessie. She had a really happy childhood and grew up with Marion & James (Nettie’s Children), who were more like a brother & sister than a niece and nephew. Sadly when she as 13 she lost her dad John, when he lost his battle with Lung Cancer. She attended Carstairs Junction School and when she left began work as a nurse at a local school for children with special needs. She met Andy, when she was 19 and the got married in 1971, a month before her 22nd birthday at Carstairs Junction Parish Church. They then moved down to Hayes, to join Margaret’s sister Nettie, her husband Jimmy, Marion & James. In 1976, Margaret gave birth to Michelle( that’s me), followed by Stuart in 1980. Margret also had a step son Russell who married Lesley in 1989. Stephanie her only granddaughter was born in 1990, followed by Alisdair in 1993. Margaret worked part time for record merchandise and then went on to work for the Land Registry, and the Ministry of Defence, where she spent all day looking for men! – but only for their military service records. After the closure of the MOD, Margaret took early retirement. In June 2009, Margaret became a granny again, when Alexander was born, she was in her element when the midwife asked if she would like to be the first to dress him. Alex’s little brother Sebastian followed in September 2010, and again granny got to dress him first. Margaret & Andy celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in September 2011, it was a special day as their youngest grandson, Sebastian’s christening also took place that day. On the 18th October, Margaret’s 62nd birthday, she received the devastating news she had terminal pancreatic cancer. She bravely fought it for 10 months, determined to be at Stuart and Emma’s wedding in April, she underwent 6 months of chemotherapy. On the day of the wedding, she looked beautiful and full of life, even chasing Alex across the lawn, which fortunately was captured on camera and I now one of my favourite photos. Margaret went on to fight it for another 4 months, celebrate Alex’s 3rd birthday and Andy’s 71st birthday. She lost her fight against Pancreatic cancer at 2.25am on Monday 6th August 2012.
